The role of digitalization and reliable wireless communication will increase in transition towards carbon-neutral energy systems. 5G VIIMA built a pilot environment for testing next-generation communication of power system protection and control with hardware-in-the-loop simulation. Integrated with 5G test network in Otaniemi, the pilot environment enables studying the capabilities of novel wireless communication technologies, developing new edge and AI solutions as well as hybrid testing of grid and communication components in their prototype phase.
